Called the F ring, this is SaturnΓÇÖs outermost visible ring. It was first discovered in 1979 from Pioneer 11 photographs. When it was observed again by Voyager 1 in 1980, scientists were quite surprised: the ring appeared to braided. The braids did not reappear in Voyager 2 photographs, suggesting that they were caused by the passage of moons. This image was taken on November 12, 1980, from a distance of 750,000 kilometers.
